Newsletter - Spring 2022

Would you like to join us in March for some amazing classes!

We are in the unique position of running 3 amazing classes back to back in Ayr, Scotland and also having space in them! These classes are as follows:
- Advanced Trauma (AVMT) - Jean-Pierre Barral - 28 February - 2 March 2022
- Brain 1- Jean-Pierre Barral - 3-5 March 2022
- Vagus Nerve and Autonomic Nervous System - Eric Marlien - 7-9 March 2022

None of these classes run very often anywhere in the world so usually getting a space in them is very tricky. However, with dates having been changed and the world uncertainty we do have a few spaces in all 3! And in addition, all these classes are running on lower numbers than usual (JPs max 40) so that we can be sure to have adequate space for all. This means you will get more contact with the instructor than in "normal" times.

Here is a little more information on each class:
Advanced Visceral Manipulation for Trauma - £775
This class is essential for those working with patients who have suffered trauma. It provides a comprehensive visceral manipulation approach to treating the effects of trauma in the tissues.

The prerequisite is VM4 and NM1, but with covid times do contact us if you do not meet these requirements and we may be able to have some flexibility for you, as we know classes have been cancelled etc.

Brain 1 - £825
Jean-Pierre Barral has been interested in the brain for over forty years. After treating many people with head trauma, stroke, brain diseases, and psychomotor disabilities, he has developed original techniques for these patients. Barral demonstrates how to work simply with what is considered the most complex organ of the human body—the brain. He addresses the brain and its associated nervous and vascular connections as the ‘content’ of the human head, which, characterized by its bony and membranous enclosure, is regarded as the ‘container.’
The course is organized into two parts—a structural approach and a functional approach:
--The structural approach is aimed at the vascular, nervous, meningeal, ocular, barometric, and cerebrospinal fluid circulation systems.
--The functional approach explores the sense of smell, hearing, sight, language, coordination, proprioception, emotions, etc.
The material assists manual therapy practitioners to view systemic diseases in a new light. This includes discussions about such conditions as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and Multiple Sclerosis. Such pathologies and the limitations of manual therapy with regards to helping people with these conditions will be discussed, as well as how a manual approach to the brain may transcend these limitations and help alleviate symptoms that people are experiencing due to these diseases. Barral shares how precise manual therapy may encourage the central nervous system to self-repair and thus may help people with certain conditions. The practitioner will also learn ways to help people who have had a stroke or ictus.
Because the brain is inherently plastic, the tools that the practitioner will learn enables him or her, in Barral's own words, to help restore 'inner bridges' within the brain, which is vital to the life of those facing difficulties.
In short, the principle underlying this work is the striking of a balance between the ease of minimum manual effort and the finesse of maximum manual precision.

The prerequisite on this class is VM6 or LT1, but with covid times do contact us if you do not meet these requirements and we may be able to have some flexibility for you, as we know classes have been cancelled etc.

Vagus Nerve and Autonomic Nervous System - £675
Equilibration of the autonomic nervous system is necessary for the long-term treatment of visceral dysfunction and many other symptoms. Explore and develop a new insight into the autonomic nervous system in accordance with the polyvagal theory.

Course Highlights

  • Focus on the command and the regulation of the organs, as well as the 5 cranial nerves that belong to the social engagement system.

  • Gain a new understanding of the action of the cranial nerves, and a different and more precise semiology, as well as new techniques.

  • Understand the functioning of the autonomic nervous system and its involvement in a very large number of symptoms and conditions encountered in clinical practice.

  • Master a clear, relevant, and precise way to identify ANS imbalances and dysfunctions.

  • Learn powerful evaluation and manual therapy tools to assist your client in reviving and balancing the functions of the autonomic nervous system and general homeostasis, which are under the control of the new branch of the vagus nerve.

  • Learn the Energy Vibration Technique to stimulate the slow and fast receptors inside the skin to reset the ANS.

  • Discover a new way to set up a treatment according to a hierarchy and a sequence that respects the unavoidable modes of operation of the autonomic nervous system and to be better able to assist people through manual therapy with chronic and psychosomatic diseases.

At the end of the seminar, you will have gained a wider understanding of health and its hindrances in order to help yourself and your patients find a healthier balance within your nervous system, as well as find a means for increasing energy and vitality.

Prerequisite is VM2 and NM1, but with covid times do contact us if you do not meet these requirements and we may be able to have some flexibility for you, as we know classes have been cancelled etc.

All spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so do email alison@barralinstitute.co.uk right away if you are interested in any of them or have any questions.
